Five CBS students have won a large international case competition in USA. These MSc students have actually beat MBA students from some of the best business schools in the Global Consulting Challenge at the University of Southern California.

The purpose of this case competition was to solve, present and defend a business problem for the case company. Large companies such as AT & T, Electronic Arts, Fox, HP and Toyota have all been cases in this competition. The winning team from Copenhagen really impressed Disney, who said the following after their deliberation: ”Your presentation did not look like an MBA presentation, but a well-prepared McKinsey presentation worth 500,000 dollars”. CBS won against nine teams from some of the best business schools in the world, so this is quite a triumph for CBS.

Traditionally, this competition only includes students at MBA level, which are top students who are back in school after a number of years in the business world. The winning team is nothing like that. Mads Wadstrøm, Morten V. Schroeder, Mads Friis, Daniel Ruff and Christian Hedegaard are all MSc students at CBS.

This year, the business case was delivered by the Disney ABC Television Group, which is part of the Walt Disney Company. The challenge was to prepare a strategy on how to keep the viewers watching television in a time of fierce competition from the digital platforms. The fact that the case company was Walt Disney is not a coincidence, as the host university, USC, is located in Los Angeles, the very epicentre of media.
