Seminar: The Global Corporate Responsibility Debate

Launch of Special Issue of 'International Affairs' & Southern Voices in the Global Debate on Corporate Responsibility

Mandag, 5 september, 2005 - 09:00 to 15:30

Centre for Business and Development Studies and Centre for Corporate Values and Responsibility, Copenhagen Business School (CBS) - in cooperation with RENED and IIED - would like to invite you to attend two interrelated seminars on corporate responsibility and development.

The seminars are entitled:

1. "Copenhagen Launch of Special Issue on Corporate Social Responsibility and Development"

An international group of researchers has made an innovative contribution to the debate on corporate responsibility (CSR) in the context of developing countries which was published in the May 2005 special issue of International Affairs (IA), a leading international journal hosted by the Royal Institute of International Affairs (RIIA), London. The Copenhagen Business School will host the Copenhagen launch of the special issue. This will include an overview of the main points raised and reactions from donor, industry, and civil society/trade union perspectives.

2. "Southern Voices in the Global Debate on Corporate Responsibility"

The seminar is jointly organized by the CopenhagenBusinessSchool, the International Institute of Environment and Development, and the Research Network on Environment and Development. Several authors from developing countries will share their views on the future potential and limitations of CSR in their national/regional contexts. So far the CSR debate has been dominated by Northern NGOs, businesses, governments, and academics while Southern perspectives have not received a lot of attention. The central aim of the seminar is therefore to bring Southern voices into the CSR/development debate.

Speakers include:

Michael Blowfield, Boston Center for Corporate Citizenship, USA

J. George Frynas, University of Middlesex, UK
