Art and Social Cohesion: Developing a methodology for community-engaged scholarship (Social Cohesion)

Abstract:

The objective of the community-engaged research project is to develop a model for scholars to create spaces of transformative politics, working along with local disenfranchised communities and civil society organizations to achieve social change.
This involves several steps:
•a community-based analysis of the economic, social and cultural concerns oriented towards community action and scholarly engagement.
•designing a collaboration with the local civil society organization as well as with community members and other public sector institutions active in the community.
•evaluating the social impact at the community level of such a community-engaged scholarly collaboration.
•assessing the potential for replicating the collaboration model in other communities and determining the role of the community-engaged scholar.
•developing training material for partners involved in such collaborations.
