UN Comtrade Database Contents

UN Comtrade is a repository of official trade statistics and relevant analytical tables. It contains annual trade statistics starting from 1962 and monthly trade statistics since 2000. You have free access to detailed global trade data (with a download limit of 50,000 records per data query; no limitation on the number of data queries).

Every year nearly 200 countries provide the United Nations Statistics Division with their annual international trade statistics - detailed by commodity and partner country.

These data are processed into a standard format with consistent coding and valuation. All values are converted into US dollars using exchange rates supplied by the countries, or derived from monthly market rates and volume of trade. Quantities are, if provided by the country and if possible, converted into metric units.

Commodities are classified according to nomenclatures

  • SITC (Rev.1 from 1962, Rev.2 from 1976 and Rev.3 from 1988)
  • Harmonized System (HS) (from 1988 with revisions in 1996, 2002, 2007, 2012, 2017 and 2022).
