1st Year Focus

The first year courses focus on providing students with the basic tools that they will need throughout their studies.

As indicated by the titles of the first year courses “fundamentals of communication” and “fundamentals of information systems” these are – together with “organisation theory “ foundation courses providing the necessary theories, concepts and tools that can be used throughout the three years of the programme. Each foundation course is completed with an examination.

The programme is taught entirely in English, and this means that the quarter assignments will also be written in English. In the first quarter, the course “fundamentals of communication” will introduce basic theories and concepts in communication studies with a focus on preparing students for writing the first quarter paper which must be submitted for examination by the end of 1st quarter. The second quarter assignment is dedicated to ‘Fundamentals of Information Systems, and the 3rd quarter assignment to ‘organisation theory’. No integration between academic fields is aimed for in the first 3 quarters. However, in the 1st year project which focuses on the overall theme of Communication in Organisations, students will work in depth with the communication studies’ aspects, but they will also have to use the theoretical, methodological and empirical aspects presented in Fundamentals of Information Systems. And furthermore, students may, if they so wish, supplement their project research question with other, related perspectives from the required course readings in Organisation Theory.
