Why are Swedish towns banning masks?

While for most Europeans, mask wearing has become an ingrained habit by now, the Swedish government has consistently warned people, precisely about their danger... Only last month, masks (finally) became recommended on public transport. Yet, few people wear masks, and some municipalities even banned them from public workplaces. How did we get here? This article draws on the principles of risk communication to explain the failure of compliance with the mask rule, and builds on this to critique the Public Health Ministry's mask policy more broadly.
