Media Development and Market Economy in China

Guest lecture by Mr Sun Yusheng, Vice President, China Central Television (CCTV)

Mr. Sun Yusheng is Vice President of the China Central Television (CCTV). He will be in Copenhagen to attend the UNESCO Conference on "The Growth of Media in China - and Its Impact on Political and Economic Development in China".

We at Asia Research Centre are happy to be able to host a guest lecture by Mr. Sun Yusheng with open access to the public. Mr. Sun Yusheng will talk about the recent Media development in China. Everybody is welcome.

Mr. Sun Yusheng began his career in 1984 when he joined China Central Television (CCTV), the state TV station of the People’s Republic of China upon graduation from Jilin University, China. Starting as a journalist, he gradually moved up to the Director of News Gathering Department, the Director of News Commentary Department, and then the Director of CCTV News Programming Center in February 1998. In 2000, he aquired the position of CCTV Deputy Editor-in-Chief. In 2004, he took another title as the President of China DTV Media Inc. Ltd., the pay TV broadcasting platform invested by China Central Television. He remained in both positions until May 2005, when he was appointed Vice President of CCTV.

Major achievements:

  • In 1993, Sun Yusheng was awarded the Taofen News Award, the most respected award in China’s circle of journalism

  • In 1995, he was elected as one of the Top-Ten Outstanding Youths of China of the year. The honor is granted to ten most talented young people every year among the whole Chinese youth population.

  • Since 1993, he had pioneered in the reform of Chinese television news programs, which lasted for 10 years.
