Capital Flows in Asian Region and the Optimal Exchange Rate System in Asia

The guest lecture examines the capital flows in Asian countries. In the 1997 Financial Crisis caused massive slowdown of Asian countries, however, economic recovery in East Asian countries are eminent. The talk will also address the FDI flows into China which pushed economic growth in China. Optimal exchange rate mechanism in Asia region is also addressed. Basket currency system is proposed by taking account of capital flows. The paper is based on empirical investigations by use of Asian data.

Prof. Naoyuki Yoshino is a Professor of Economics at Keio University since 1991. Since 2004, he has been a Director of Financial Research and Training Center at Japan’s Financial Services Agency (FSA). He is a chairperson of Foreign Exchange Council, Ministry of Finance and he also serves as a chairperson of Fiscal Council (FILP Section), Ministry of Finance. Professor Yoshino holds an Honorary Doctorate from Goteborg University, Sweden.
