China in the World, the World in China (ChinaWorld)

International Workshop

Fredag, 10 marts, 2006 - 09:00 to Lørdag, 11 marts, 2006 - 16:00

This international research workshop will review the theoretical and empirical debates on China’s economy and Chinese culture and enterprise. The primary focus will concentrate on the impact of the development of Chinese enterprises and communities – in and out of China – as well as on the economies of the mainland and those of Asia.

The workshop will furthermore touch on studies that assess the impact of the growing influence of the Chinese economy and society on Southeast Asia, South Asia, Europe, the United States and other regions around the globe. The workshop will focus on these and other changes as two-way interactions that are both intra-regional (that is, with other parts of Asia) and inter-regional (that is, with other regions of the world).

Topics to be discussed at the workshop:

  • Investment patterns in China;

  • Investment patterns in other countries by China;

  • the economic and business outcomes of these investments;

  • assessments of the impact of such investment flows from a national, regional, and global perspective;

  • ASEAN-China integration;

  • the impact of WTO on Chinese investment flows and business development;

  • analyses of investment and business development patterns of the Chinese diaspora;

  • studies on migration patterns among ethnic Chinese, in and outside of China,

  • issues on changing class and ethic identities, among the Chinese in China, as well as the Chinese diaspora;

  • ethnic and national identity involving ethnic Chinese

Participants attending the workshop represent academic communities in China, Singapore, Malaysia, Canada, USA, the UK, Geneva, the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark.

Organising committee: Dr. Michael Jacobsen and Dr. Can Seng Ooi, both Asia Research Centre, Copenhagen Business School.
