Edward Ashbee was among the speakers at a major conference organised at All Souls College (University of Oxford) on January 20th.

Founded in 1438, All Souls is a leading research institution and by tradition has no undergraduates. The conference considered the shared challenges facing the Democrats in the US and the Labour Party in the UK.

Eddie Ashbee spoke alongside Stephen Timms, a British Cabinet member and former Senator Gary Hart, who sought the Democrats’ presidential nomination in both 1984 and 1988. Ashbee said, ‘This conference comes at an important time. After taking control of Congress the Democrats now have the 2008 election in their sights. As the Blair premiership comes to an end the Labour Party has to think about its future. Against this background I discussed the ways in which Democrats can win across those who are concerned about moral issues, the so-called 'values voters'.’
