The Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation’s Research Council for Society and Business has granted Leonard Seabrooke 1 million kroner for the project ‘Legitimacy Gaps in Global Economic Governance: The International Monetary Fund and Tax Reform, 1965-2005’. The project examines IMF tax reform programs in 20 borrowing states from 1965 to 2005 to discover how it may be possible to close ‘legitimacy gaps’ between the IMF and borrowing states that impede tax reform program success. To understand legitimacy gaps the project uses a unique methodological approach called ‘small

n nested analysis’ that blends quantitative and qualitative analysis, drawing upon a hitherto unearthed data set, and extensive interviews with government officials and representatives from tax focused citizen groups.
