CBS appoints Carl Pedersen as Adjunct Professor at the Center for the Study of the Americas.

Carl Pedersen, Associate Professor at the University of Copenhagen, is appointed Adjunct Professor at the Center for the Study of the Americas Tuesday 7 February 2006.

The appointment of Carl Pedersen provides CBS with important knowledge and valuable experience in American socio-cultural conditions and foreign policy.

A prominent figure with great knowledge of socio-cultural conditions in America

”We are looking very much forward to having Carl Pedersen attached to the Center for the Study of the Americas. First of all, he has been one of the leading forces for decades in the development of American studies in Denmark, and secondly, his research shows great interest in areas that will strengthen our efforts to develop a complete perspective of the American continents. I have particularly in mind his many contributions to the research of racial conditions in the US and his studies of socio-cultural conditions in the Caribbean. In addition, he has become a prominent figure in the Danish media coverage of particularly the US foreign policy during the last couple of years. I am convinced that the appointment of Carl Pedersen is the beginning of a relationship, which CBS will benefit greatly from,” says Niels Bjerre-Poulsen, Director, Center for the Study of the Americas, CBS.

A focus on trends and challenges in the 21st century

”For a long time, I have been impressed with the great contributions of seminars and conferences made by the Center for the Study of the Americas. I think it is commendable that CBS has established a Teaching and Research Center, which focuses on the study of the entire western hemisphere’s history, culture and social conditions in stead of just concentrating on a few countries. I am very honoured by the appointment as Adjunct Professor, and in my inauguration speech ”The Epic of Greater America in the 21st Century”, I will talk about the demographic changes that have brought the countries in the western hemisphere closer together at a time where the resistance against the immigration from Latin America and South America’s swing to the left can lead to conflicts in the 21st century, “ says Carl Pedersen.
