PhD defence: Louise Lyngfeldt Gorm Hansen

In order to obtain the PhD degree, Louise Lyngfeldt Gorm Hansen, who is a graduate of the first class of PhD alumni from the Sino-Danish Center for Education and Research (SDC) has submitted her thesis entitled: Triggering Earthquakes in Science, Politics and Chinese Hydropower - A controversy study

Drawing together insights from Science and Technology Studies (STS) and contemporary China studies, the thesis conducts a controversy study focusing on the intermingling of political considerations and emerging science in a controversy over whether or not the Zipingpu dam in China’s Sichuan Province caused the magnitude 7.9 Wenchuan Earthquake on May 12th, 2008. An earthquake which ultimately caused the death of more than 90,000 people.
