Research communication world championship in Copenhagen

Next week, Danish universities bring together research and society at the science festival Science in the City at the Carlsberg City District in Copenhagen.

Obviously, CBS will be there, and Alan Irwin, Dean of Research, is thrilled about the event:
"We fully support the whole festival in its attempt to bring research and society closer together."

Science in the City
All eight Danish universities are represented at Science in the City. CBS can be found at "Halmlageret", where young entrepreneurs pitch their business ideas live, professor David Lando talks about the mechanisms of the financial crisis, and stand up comedian Lasse Rimmer hosts this year's Science Slam.

Alan Irwin really likes the concept of the festival:

"We fully support the whole festival in its attempt to bring research and society closer together. Research needs the enthusiastic support of European citizens - and as researchers we have something important to contribute to successful social development. This is a great occasion not just for CBS but for all of Copenhagen and indeed for Denmark as a whole."

Alan Irwin encourages both CBS staff and students and neighbours of CBS to visit the festival:

"CBS is an open and engaged university. We take our social responsibilities seriously. So what better way is there for us to get into dialogue about research  - and at the same time to convey our enthusiasm and depth of scholarship? We invite everyone with at curious bone to visit the CBS area - and perhaps stay around to join in the discussion and the fun. We can all learn something from the experience."

Research conference at Tap1
At the other side of the road, more than 4,000 participants from Europe meet at one of the most prestigious international academic congresses, the Euroscience Open Forum (ESOF), held for the first time in Copenhagen. Business people, researchers, journalists, students and politicians will discuss, listen and inspire each other in terms of energy, climate, food and health. The aim is to promote a dialogue on the role of research in society, talk about the latest developments and create public interest and excitement about social science and technology, and establish networks and new relations.

"Often, when people think of research they automatically imagine natural scientists, laboratories and white coats. It is very important that social, economic and management research is also represented at the conference, which is one of the reasons that several CBS researchers is participating", Alan Irwin adds.

Participants in the ESOF conference are encouraged to showcase the latest advances in science and technology, to promote a dialogue on the role of science and technology in society and public policy and to stimulate and provoke public interest, excitement and debate about science and technology.

Science in the City is free and everybody is welcome. It runs from Saturday 20 June to Thursday 26 June. Learn more about the programme and get practical information at www.scienceinthecity.dk or cbs.dk/scicity

The ESOF conference is held at Tap1 at Ny Carlsberg Vej 91. The conference is closed, but you can read more about the conference at www.esof2014.org.
