PhD defence: Sina Smid

Mandag, 28 august, 2023 - 14:30 to 16:30

In order to obtain the PhD degree, Sina Smid has submitted her thesis entitled:

Inequality and Redistribution

Essays on Local Elections, Gender and Corruption in Developing Countries

Persistent economic and political inequalities in developing countries have intensified public debates about the causes and the implementation of redistributive policies. While inequality and redistribution are outcomes of political processes and institutions, this thesis addresses understudied aspects of political partisanship, gender, and corruption in Bolivia, Brazil, and Tanzania. Consisting of four distinct chapters, the thesis employs novel (quasi-)experimental methods to provide a comprehensive understanding of the factors contributing to persistent economic and political inequalities in developing countries.
