Talks

by Dean of Education, Gregor Halff

CBS is in a good position to find out how business education needs to change. Firstly, because CBS has always had a broad understanding of ‘business in society’. Secondly, in the Nordics progress comes from permanent debate and broad consultation. Currently, CBS is therefore engaged in broad debate about what the Nordics want from their business school. Dean of Education Gregor Halff will present the results and discuss how responsibility can become a capability of every graduate.

Computers have played a central role in office work for half a century. Over time, the computers and the software-programmes have become more and more advanced. However, the constant aim has been to lower costs, reduce errors and avoid redundancy and IT has been a support in daily work. Recently digital transformation of work has led to a radical shift. Robots and advanced technologies have started to enter the work place. This has led to that technology is in the center and employees in the periphery. This talk focuses on trends in the domain of digital transformation of work. Different views and avenues are presented to illustrate the radical shifts that may soon come to your workplace too.

Multinational Corporations are by definition to be defined as a hierarchy, where power, i.e., domination flows from the top (headquarters) down to the bottom (the subsidiary) of the organization. However, newer research investigates how subsidiary being a low power actor still can achieve substantial influence on decision-making processes in headquarters. This is managed through utilizing resource dependency situation on the one hand, and through politicking behavior, on the other.
