Why did I choose my programme?
For many years, I have had a keen interest in hotels, airlines and the travel industry in general. I have also had an interest in economics as it was one of my favourite subjects in the I.B., and I was very eager to know how to run a business. Therefore, the subjects that you choose in high school may have a profound impact on the courses that you would want to pursue in the future. I actually applied for all 8 English-taught courses in business and administration. This was the one I was selected for.

What do I like the best?    
The multitude of courses we have, ranging from numbers such as corporate finance, to the real-world tourism, and the hospitality guest speakers that come in for those courses. I like the large proportion of international students in the degree - 76% if I remember correctly – which brings cultural diversity. In my opinion, it is a great learning experience to learn from other cultures.

What do I think is difficult?
SEM is one of the programmes at CBS with the most economics and math in it. The math part is probably one of the aspects that I was most surprised with and that I find most difficult, so I would recommend students to really understand this before applying. I also find the textbooks prescribed in the syllabus a little lengthy.

What would I have liked to have known before starting my programme?    
I would have liked to have known the amount and level of difficulty of math throughout the courses. I would have also liked to have known the differences between the Danish university culture and the international culture as this would make it easier for the new international students to adapt. 

What do I want to do after finishing my programme?    
I believe in general that at twenty years of age, you don’t really know what you want to do in life. However, right now, I wish to work in a multinational company, or work with diplomacy or international politics. I would aspire to perhaps work abroad.

If I could give myself a piece of advice, before starting it would be…
To really find out which concentration appeals the most to you. Although we share some classes such as Managerial Economics or Corporate Finance, there are other courses which are specific to the concentration you have chosen. So, if this concentration is not your favorite, it can be quite disappointing to have to take so many classes in this area when you could have chosen a different area that you may have found more interesting.
