Collaboration and Outreach

SDC (Sino-Danish Center for Education and Research)
Members of EGB make a significant contribution, alongside colleagues from other CBS departments and Danish universities, to the work of the Sino-Danish Center for Education and Research (https://sdc.university)

The SDC brings together teaching staff, researchers and MSc students from both Denmark (as well as other European countries) and China. It offers eight MSc programmes and is based at the the Eastern Yanqihu campus of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences which is located just outside Beijing: (https://maps.app.goo.gl/Fq54NFoBzPHkaFgKA?g_st=com.microsoft.Office.Outl...)

EGB staff members coordinate, and teach on, both the Innovation Management and Public Management and Social Development MSc programmes. Kjeld Erik Brødsgaard coordinates the Comparing Societies and Economic Systems course (Autumn semester) whilst Eddie Ashbee coordinates Comparative Public Policymaking (Spring semester)

The SDC also offers double-degree PhD scholarships in conjunction with Danish universities. Those who secure places work with both a Danish and a Chinese supervisor, undertake research in both countries and contribute to SDC teaching in Beijing. In 2021, Kasper Ingeman Beck was awarded a PhD for his thesis assessing Chinese state-owned enterprise reforms and corporate governance. Armin Scheer is currently working towards a PhD. His thesis considers innovation policies and the governance of artificial intelligence (AI)

Members of EGB also contribute to SDC’s collaborative research activity particularly within the social sciences (https://sdc.university/research/research-areas/social-sciences/). As part of this they have undertaken study visits and are organizing research workshops. Two of these – considering (1) trade, investment and “decoupling” processes and (2) the policy implications of AI are taking place in China at the end of 2023.
