STEAMING AHEAD: Experiences and the Transition from Sail to Steam
This thesis delves into seafarers' firsthand experiences with the transition from sail to steam in the maritime world. Deploying microhistory approaches, it explores the intricate dynamics between individual agency and structural dynamics, and new ways to approach large-scale structural transformations through the study of experiences and individual agency.
