SMG seminar

Friday, November 24, 2006 - 12:00 to 14:00

Seminar arranged by Center for Strategic Management and Globalization.

by Eva Boxenbaum (CBS)

Abstract: My presentation examines the notion of institutional entrepreneurship (IE), which is an object of much controversy within organizational institutionalism. The notion of IE challanges the assumption that human agency is institutionally embedded and suggests that deliberate strategizing may lead to institutional change in an industry of society. Part of the controversy revolves around the question of whether strategy and methodological individualism can contribute to understanding causes and processes of institutional change. I draw the contours of this controversy based on a descriptive review of the IE literature. I also present key features of my own emperical research findings and take a stance on the place for strategy in organizational institutionalism.
