China in the World Economy

by Finn Østrup

Thursday, May 30, 2013 - 17:30 to 19:00

China has during the recent decades experienced an exceptional economic development. In 2010, China overtook Japan as the second-largest economy in the world. This raises the fundamental question whether this past trend will continue.

The lecture looks at the Chinese economic development mainly from a wider international perspective. Especially three questions will be raised: (i) can the Chinese economy make the shift to a research-based and knowledge-intensive production, (ii) will the old industrial countries react to the Chinese economic development with protectionism, and (iii) what will be the future of the current Chinese exchange rate policy.

Finn Østrup is Professor at the Department of International Economics and Management at the CBS. He has written extensively about international macroeconomics, especially exchange-rate policy.  Østrup has lectures at Fudan University about the EURO.

This lecture is free of charge. Please sign up before the lecture using the link below (last day for registration is May 29):
