Global Social Venture Competition (GSVC)
GSVC is the biggest international competition on social entrepreneurships. The competition aims to empower the next generation of social entrepreneurs by providing them with mentoring, exposure, and over $80,000 in prizes to transform their ideas into ventures that address the world’s most pressing challenges. Teams from across the globe learn how to design scalable models through a process that emphasizes stakeholder discovery, business innovation, and social impact assessment.
Founded by MBA students at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business in 1999, the GSVC has evolved into a global network of premier business schools, universities, and programs in the US, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Each partner school and program is supported by a network that includes other universities and organizations, judges, mentors, and investors focused on social impact, innovation, and entrepreneurship. In 2017, GSVC received over 600 entries from 65 countries.
This year, CBS PRME signed to become the first GSVC partner in Scandinavia and will going forward be responsible for engaging students across Scandinavia to sign up and participate in GSVC.

What is Green Challenge (Grøn Dyst)?
Green Challenge is an annual student competition and conference held at DTU. The aim is to ensure that students integrate aspects of sustainability, climate, and the environment in their work. The selected teams are invited to pitch their green ideas to a panel of prominent judges at the student conference.
CBS has 10 available spots for teams with one or more CBS students. Cross-disciplinary teams are encouraged.
Green Challenge was held Friday 23 June 2017 at DTU this year.
The date for next year’s event is not final yet.
To participate you must:
- Decide on a project that contains an element of sustainability, climate and/or the environment, the project must be ECTS giving (meaning that you must apply learning from a class taught at university) and be prepared since Green Challenge last Summer 2016.
- Write and send in an abstract presenting the project/idea
- Prepare 120sec pitch to be presented at the Green Challenge Conference 23 June 2017.
Note that all selected teams shall be able to participate at the Green Challenge Conference as this is where the projects are being presented and judged.

An abstract is a brief summary of your key project points. You can read more about how to register and access the summary template here. Note that the template must be followed, as all abstracts are published in a conference catalogue. The abstract must be written in English.
On the Conference Day
On the day about 300 students and 25 judging panels consisting of 5 persons each meet each other at the DTU library in Lyngby. The judging panels consist of representatives from business, politics, professors and institute directors, teachers and students from DTU, CBS, KU etc.
At the conference, the students are present throughout the day. The projects are divided into 8 different categories, so everyone has equal opportunities to participate whether you are an undergraduate or graduate student.
Each project has 120 seconds to pitch for the judges followed by a few minutes clarifying questions and comments. Each jury sees about 15 projects during the day to ensure that all projects are evaluated by three different panels.
As project assessment is based on an overall assessment, it is a good idea to have the criteria in mind when writing your abstract. On the conference day, the projects are assessed at several stages by panels of judges. You can read more about the actual conference presentation under ‘Preparing your presentation’.
The projects are solely assessed in relation to other projects in the same category. All projects are assessed according to the following criteria:
- Is the project well-structured and clearly communicated? Is there a clear thread running throughout the presentation, does the presentation stay within the allotted time frame, is there cohesion between the visual and oral presentation and is the message clear.
- To what extent is the project likely to have a positive environmental or energy impact? Does the project demonstrate the extent of the environmental benefit and whether it is realistically feasible? We recommend using methods to support the probability of a positive environmental or energy impact.
- To what extent is the project technically applicable and likely to be realized? Is the project realizable and can it be implemented within a reasonable time frame? How probable is it that the technology can be applied in the desired manner?
- To what extent is it visionary and/or innovative? Is the project innovative? Are the findings surprising?
PRME Nordic Chapter
The PRME Nordic Chapter was established in September 2014 and it serves as a focal point of coordination and communication for signatories based in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. The PRME Nordic Chapter serves to collect all Nordic PRME signatories in a Nordic-wide network, to help each other implement the PRME initiatives in their local context. The chapter therefore provides a platform, which enables collaboration and communication within the field of sustainability and responsible management among universities in the Nordic Region.

The PRME Nordic network meets twice a year. The 2017 PRME Nordic Chapter meetings were held at Hanken School of Economics on 27 April and Stockholm School of Economics 8 September.

Responsible and sustainable behavior is increasingly becoming more and more important for companies and society as a whole. At CBS, one key objective is to convey values that hopefully enhance responsible behavior in its students. But is education at CBS geared towards this objective or is it indirectly equipping our students to support dubious business practices through its focus on profit maximization and utilitarian decision making? The Responsible Management Education (RME) survey tries to answer these questions by measuring students attitudes towards (ir)responsible behaviour, their self-efficacy and belief about their ability to act responsibly. By repeating this survey after every semester we have now obtained longitudinal data that helps us understand how these attitudes change over time. It is hoped that the insights gained from this survey will help CBS better understand what influence its curriculum has on the attitudes of its students and what can be improved or changed to help strengthen CBS’ position as one of the leading business schools for responsible management education in the world.
Responsible Banking and Finance event October 30, 2017
BANKING FOR THE FUTURE – RETHINKING THE FINANCIAL SECTOR – 30th October 2017
This CBS centenary event is organized by Centre for Corporate Governance in collaboration with the CBS PRME office.
The purpose of the “Responsible Banking and Finance – Banking for the Future” event is to set an engaged agenda for business universities towards 2117 that could inform research and teaching in the banking and finance realm.
Despite the lessons learned by the Nordic countries in the late 1980s and early 1990s and eight years after the global financial crisis, the need for rethinking business practices and regulation in the banking and financial industry is still visible. The event will bring together academics and practitioners to discuss and convey a reasoned appeal for research and teaching on responsible banking and finance for the next decades.
Agenda and speakers
The expected outcome is to develop a close cooperation with practitioners and academics and shake up the image of banking and financial institutions for the next 100 years.
During the day, lectures in different areas within responsible banking will be possible to attend. Three tracks will be set up with different speakers and subjects of matter
– Track I: Banking and the society
– Track II: Responsible Banking as a business model
– Track III: Responsible Banking at an Individual level
Speakers and professors will give their take on responsible banking with individual perspectives. Among others, speakers from Finansforbundet, Copenhagen FinTech, Handelsbanken and Finans Danmark will attend the event. Views and opinions will be shared within finance in the next 100 years with subtitles such as the following:
– “The welfare implications of the growth of the financial sector
– “Banking – a religious perspective”
– “Entrepreneurial focus within finance”
– “Women in banking”
– “What is responsible banking seen from the regulators perspective?”
– “Sustainable banking seen from a market leader perspective”

Sustainable Campus Hackathon
In collaboration with 5 student organizations, CBS PRME is coordinating the first ever hackathon inviting students from all Danish universities to come up with solutions to CBS’ biggest sustainability challenges from food waste to equality. The challenges have been defined by CBS staff working with the areas on a daily basis and the students will get mentoring from staff and student organizations with expertise in the respective areas. On day 2, the student teams will present their solutions in front of a prominent jury panel. The winning team will be send to the PRME headquarters in New York to present their solution to inspire other PRME schools to work with campus as a living lab. It is the aim of the project that the winning solution should be implemented at CBS in collaboration with the winning team, oikos, CBS staff and top management.

Sulitest is one of our collaborating activities with the PRME Nordic Chapter. Sulitest is a self-evaluation tool with the aim of creating awareness and increasing knowledge of global issues and sustainable development. It has the ambitious vision “to develop Sustainability Literacy worldwide and empower engaged and committed global citizen to make informed and responsible decisions, and collectively build a sustainable future” It was created after the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio + 20) and designed to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The CBS PRME office has just recently started working with the Sulitest, however, we aim to apply the test to all new bachelor students at their first day at CBS.
