Workshop: Neighborhoods, Externalities and Inequality - Call for Paper
Economic growth is unequally distributed not just between, but also within cities. This might reflect that residents and firms are spatially segregated based on various characteristics. However, it could also be that certain neighborhood characteristics within cities influence residents’ productivity, employment, health, crime and hence maintain inequality. The focus of the workshop is to discuss research on how and to what extent exposure to spatial disparities influences residents’ behavior. In particular, we invite submissions that touch upon questions such as:
- To what extent do we observe inequality across space and over time?
- Which neighborhood externalities impact individual behavior?
- Is the effect short- or long term?
- Through which channels do areas or neighborhoods operate?
- Can policy interventions make a difference?
The purpose of this full day workshop is to bring together researchers, to offer an opportunity for scientific discussion as well as to build new relationships among scholars with common research interests. PhD students and young researchers are particularly welcome to submit their related research.
