Rethinking Data Reuse

The workshop is hosted by the AI REUSE research project at Copenhagen Business School.

Tirsdag, 3 november, 2020 - 11:00 to 14:00

Our ambition with the workshop is to gather theories and practices that might help us better understand the political, ethical and material implications of data reuse processes in machine learning and how such processes conversely shape the ethics of the implementation of machine learning systems, especially between public and private sectors.

This will be a hybrid workshop, and it will be possible to participate either in-person (limited attendance) or via a video conference. Zoom will be used as the conference call software for this workshop.

Agenda

11:00 - 12:50 (Including a short break): Short presentations from speakers about their own experience with the concept of data reuse. The speakers are Celia Lury, Cristina Alaimo, Louisa Amoore, Mareile Kaufmann, Gabriela Ivens, Manu Luksch, Zeerak Waseem, Mikkel Flyverbom and Anja Bechmann.
12:50 - 13:10: Break
13.10 - 13:40: Adam Harvey presents MegaPixels
13:40 - 14:00: Roundtable discussion with Daniela Agostinho as moderator

Background for the AI REUSE research project

AI REUSE is a multi-year (2020-2024) research project funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark and comprising Copenhagen Business School (Nanna Bonde Thylstrup, PI, Mikkel Flyverbom, co-PI, Kristian Bondo Hansen, Assistant Professor [from December 2020] and Teis Lebeck, student assistant and collaborator) and Durham University (Louise Amoore, co-PI). AI REUSE will develop advanced theoretical and methodological frameworks for thinking through concepts and practices of reuse of data and algorithms in AI / machine learning (ML) systems and the ethical and political questions these reuse processes give rise to. Based on this work AI REUSE will develop strategies and recommendations that can help the Danish public sector make responsible decisions in relation to ML systems.
