Fewer departments at CBS

CBS will reduce the number of departments from 14 to 11 in an effort to create stronger research, education and teaching environments. All members of staff remain on board.

As of the summer holidays there will be 11 departments at CBS. Senior Management is certain that the new structure will provide CBS with even stronger research and education environments.

“We have initiated a merger process based on a close dialogue with the academic environments. The new structure provides CBS with departments that are more robust and sustainable,” explains Dean of Research Søren Hvidkjær, who continues:

“The goal has been to build upon existing strengths while respecting CBS’ profile and history. The mergers have been introduced to foster even stronger research and education environments that support CBS as a leading international business school.”

The present 14 departments will be reduced to 11. Some departments will merge in pairs, others will be divided up and merged with more than one department, depending on the best match between research areas. All research topics will continue to operate and all staff will be offered to stay at CBS.

“Reforming the structure of the departments must take place with great respect for CBS’ history and the entrepreneurial spirit that has guided our growth and increased our international recognition in recent decades. Senior Management is convinced that CBS will be strengthened further with the structural adjustments,” asserts Hvidkjær.

The mergers are as follows:

  • The Department of Strategic Management and Globalization (SMG) will merge with the Department of Innovation and Organizational Economics (INO)
     
  • The Department of Business and Politics (DBP) will merge with various departments: its International Political Economy unit will merge with the Department of Organization (IOA), while its Comparative and European Public Policy unit will merge with parts of the Department of International Economics and Management (INT) to establish a new department, and its Business and Civil Society unit will merge with the Department of Management, Politics and Philosophy (MPP).
     
  • Department of International Economics and Management (INT) will also merge with various departments: its Center for Corporate Governance (CCG) will merge with the Department of Accounting and Auditing (ACC), while its Center for Leisure and Culture Services (CLCS) will merge with Department of Management, Politics and Philosophy (MPP), and other INT research units will merge with Department of Business and Politics (DBP) Comparative and European Public Policy unit to establish a new department.
     
  • Department of Accounting and Auditing (AAC) will merge with Center for Corporate Governance (CCG).
     
  • The Law Department (LAW) will become a centre and merge with Department of Management, Politics and Philosophy (MPP).


The mergers will formally enter into force on 1 July 2018. In June the department heads will be appointed and the names of the new departments will be determined.
