Copenhagen Consensus – with Adjunct Professor Bjørn Lomborg in charge – is being established as center at CBS as of 1 January 2006.

Copenhagen Consensus Center’s goal is to anchor priority on the international agenda.    

President Finn Junge-Jensen, CBS, says ”Copenhagen Consensus is an expression of an important innovative way of getting priority on the agenda, and I am very glad that the center has been attached to CBS.”  

Bjørn Lomborg, Adjunct Professor at CBS and the man behind Copenhagen Consensus 2004, will be director of the center. Bjørn Lomborg says “The Copenhagen Consensus Center will aim at prioritising solutions to global problems in the same way as last year’s Copenhagen Consensus meeting.

Copenhagen Consensus 2004 put together an international expert panel of eighth prominent economists, of which four are Nobel Prize winners. The panel estimated and prioritised solutions to ten of the world’s largest problems.

With a starting point in what the world could do with an extra $ 50 billion, the panel found that the four solutions were prevention of HIV/AIDS, the fight against malnutrition, free trade and malaria. The suggested solutions to prevent changes in the climate ended at the bottom of the list.

The Copenhagen Consensus Center has received funds to start the process for Copenhagen Consensus 2008 from the Minister for Development Cooperation and Danida. Copenhagen Consensus 2008 will update the global priorities – and emphasise the need for priority, go into the scientific and financial understanding of problems and solutions as well as to encourage innovative and financial stable solutions.

At the moment the center cooperates with international decision makers in order to prioritise solutions by using the Copenhagen Consensus way.
