David Blankenhorn, a leading figure in the American ‘marriage movement’ and president of the New York-based Institute for American Values, will be visiting CopenhagenBusinessSchool’s Center for the Study of the Americas at the beginning of June.

Asked to summarise his objectives, Blankenhorn has said: ‘every child deserves a mother and a father.’ He has put forward proposals to strengthen marriage, deter illegitimacy, and toughen the divorce laws.

Bitter criticism

Although his thinking contributed to the Bush administration’s Healthy Marriage Initiative, it has also provoked widespread and often intense controversy. Blankenhorn has been accused of attempting to keep women tied to unhappy and oppressive marriages. At the same time, his calls for ‘responsible fatherhood’ have attracted bitter criticisms from a number of men’s organizations who claim that he is imposing a ‘feminist agenda’ upon them.

Blankenhorn will be speaking at a seminar which has been organized with the assistance of the US Embassy on Friday 3 June at CBS, Dalgas Have 15, 2000, Frederiksberg, Room 1Ø.001 at 14:00.
