User communities

Many firms are using the Internet to organize user communities in order to foster collective learning and involve users in innovation. To highlight this new important theme Copenhagen Business School’s Center for Knowledge Governance is hosting the workshop “Gaining advantage from organizing and accessing user communities”. The workshop draws attention to the opportunities and challenges that firms face when involving end-users into the process of innovation and product development.

Some of the questions that will be addressed are: How can firms benefit from access to innovative user communities? What are the promises and limitations of this business model?

The speakers come from renowned institutions such as MIT, Wharton, Technische Universitaet Muenchen and CBS. They will draw on experiences from their own research on innovative user communities related to Open Source Software, Harley Davidson Motorcycles, Swatch Watches, Lego and Online computer gaming.
