PhD defence: Stefano Tripodi
This Thesis explores several dimensions of poverty and develops procedures and mechanisms to understand individuals' and households' decision making in situation of scarcity. The first Chapter studies how rural households' welfare in Uganda is affected by environment degradation. The second Chapter tests different procedure to elicit Willingness to Pay during fieldwork. Chapter three looks at the effect of desert locust swarms on farm profits in rural Ethiopia, and Chapter four studies the causal effect of male unemployment on intimate partner violence in urban Uganda
