Blockchain seminar at CBS, Department of Accounting and Auditing

Bitcoin is on everyone's lips at the moment. However, behind the sparkling crypto currency's facade there is a technological engine, which has a potential far beyond payment systems and speculative investment objects. A potential that can revolutionize the entire way we register and use data in a broad sense. The technology is called Blockchain, and although the number of practical uses remains very limited, many are currently heavily investing in exploring the use of Blockchain. A good example is the shipping industry, where Maersk recently announced a joint venture with IBM. Their ambition is to digitize the industry’s paper supplies based on a Blockchain solution.
But what is new in Blockchain? And how will the technological changes, that Blockchain expects to cause, affect business executives in general, and accountants and auditors in particular? Is Blockchain at all useful in a single company, when the primary strength of technology, to date, has been to build trust in networks of stakeholders who do not know each other and, therefore, do not necessarily trust in one another?

These questions, among others, will be discussed at a seminar at the Department of Accounting and Auditing, and it is our pleasure to invite you to join.

13:45 – 14:30: Blockchain and the commoditization of trust v/ Simon Schillebeeckx (Guest speaker, Singapore Management University)
