PhD Defence: Marie Arnbak-Hartzberg
In order to obtain the PhD degree, Marie Arnbak-Hartzberg has submitted her thesis entitled:
What are we missing?
A study of the affective and collective dimension of workrelated stress
This PhD thesis explores the affective dimensions of collective processes in work-related stress, using the concept of organisational atmosphere and Hartmut Rosa’s resonance theory. Based on a qualitative study, it examines how resonant atmospheres promote well-being through material, social, and existential resonance, and how acceleration and instrumentalisation undermine these types of resonance, leading to stress and alienation. It highlights the role of "First Tuning Forks," employees who sustain resonance through affective labour, despite its taxing nature. The findings underscore the need for managers to address atmospheric dynamics to maintain workplace resonance and mitigate stress.
The thesis will be available from research.cbs.dk
