I completed a PhD in Science and Technology Policy (University of Sussex-SPRU) and a Habilitation in Economics (University of Bremen). My research is at the intersection of international business, innovation and development studies. Previous work focused primarily on the role of multinational firms for the technological development of emerging economies. My current work deals with the internationalization of R&D by European multinational firms as well as the global race for leadership in artificial intelligence technologies. I am Visiting Fellow at the John H. Dunning Centre for International Business at the University of Reading (United Kingdom) and Honorary Research Fellow at the Centre for Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators (South Africa).

I offer supervision at all levels (BA, MA, PhD) on the following subjects: FDI and economic development; determinants and effects of inward/outward FDI, technological development in emerging economies; R&D internationalization; effects of offshoring & outsourcing; governance of global value chains (GVCs); economic and social upgrading in GVCs, CSR in GVCs.
