Torben Möger Pedersen is stepping down as chairman of the CBS Board of Directors.

Torben has informed the CBS Board that he will step down from his position as chairman at the end of June 2025.

He explains his decision by stating that he has decided to reduce the number of board positions he holds and focus on a smaller number:

“I turn 70 this year and have therefore decided it is time to scale down some of my board responsibilities. At the end of June, I will step down as chairman of the CBS Board and as chairman of the Advisory Board of the National Defence Technology Centre (NFC). In spring next year, I will also resign as chairman of Gefion Gymnasium and chairman of the Danish Society for Education and Business (DSEB). I will focus on my positions as chairman of the boards of the CIP Foundation and the Danish Foreign Policy Society, my seat on the board of Mind Energy and my new role as senior advisor at Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners.

It has been interesting and very demanding to help develop CBS over the past six years. We managed the COVID lockdown effectively, recruited a new and competent senior management team, strengthened our finances and achieved a strong position in the international university landscape. Our programmes attract many applicants, our graduates are in high demand, and our research is of a high international standard. Recently, we have played an active role in translating the master programme reform into the development of new programmes matching the needs and expectations of the business community,” says Torben Möger Pedersen and continues:

“Universities are facing significant challenges because of the new geopolitical agenda, the digital revolution and the vital debate on academic freedom in today’s security policy context. I am confident that CBS is well prepared to offer solutions in these areas – for the benefit of our students, our employees and the Danish and international companies that hire our graduates.”

CBS’ strategic priorities remain unchanged

CBS President, Peter Møllgaard, thanks Torben Möger Pedersen for his dedicated efforts:

“Torben has been instrumental in driving strategic change at CBS. His and the rest of the CBS Board’s ambitious approach to our university is greatly appreciated. The dialogue with the Board and its chair is essential to the continued development of CBS.”

The new acting chairman, Lilian Mogensen, also expresses her gratitude to Torben for his contribution and strong commitment:

“Torben has worked tirelessly and with great energy to move CBS forward. Together with the rest of the Board, he has been firmly focused on ensuring that the university delivers the knowledge, graduates and lifelong learning that are in demand from the world around us. The themes prioritised by Torben and the Board remain as relevant as ever – especially the need for academic freedom.”

Lilian Mogensen looks forward to the task ahead and sees CBS firmly positioned as a globally recognised business university with deep roots in the Nordic socio-economic model.

“CBS has a strong foundation. We attract a high number of applicants, and our graduates are in great demand by the business community. We deliver impact through societally relevant, world-class research and maintain strong, close ties to society at large – particularly the private sector, which plays a vital role in securing our future growth and prosperity.”

In accordance with the Danish University Act and CBS’ bylaws, deputy chairman Lilian Mogensen will serve as acting chairman of the Board until a new chair is appointed. Board member Gunnar Bovim will serve as acting deputy chair.

Lilian Mogensen’s current appointment runs until 2027.
