With an international background and an interest in both economics and psychology, Alexander Sebald will be the new head of Department of Economics (ECON). Previously an associate professor at the University of Copenhagen, the 44-year-old economist will join CBS on 1 September as the head of department for ECON, where he will be setting the strategic direction in collaboration with ECON’s faculty and in line with CBS’ strategy. Deputy President of CBS Inger Askehave puts emphasis on three of the new hire’s competences in particular:

”I’m looking very much forward to welcoming Alexander on campus as new head of department for ECON. Alexander has solid experience in research management, an extensive professional insight into ECON’s research and teaching areas, and he has exciting visions for the further development of the department. I'm confident he's the right person to meet ECON’s needs and CBS’ strategic ambitions.”

Associate Professor Alexander Sebald has many years of experience heading research groups and externally funded projects as well as supervising and teaching. Among his accolades, he was awarded teacher of the year at his previous department. Moreover, Alexander has headed the scientifically ethical committee on the faculty of social sciences and department of economics at the university of Copenhagen. In the coming years he will be looking forward to continuing the positive development of ECON at CBS.

“I am extremely delighted to head the department of economics at CBS in the coming years and to continue the successful effort of my predecessors in creating and facilitating a vibrant diverse and internationally well reputed academic environment,” says Alexander Sebald, and continues:

“In my previous positions I've been working with and leading many people with diverse interests. I realized that I greatly enjoy motivating people and enjoy creating a vibrant research environment that is inclusive, inspirational and fruitful. Although I am a very engaged researcher and teacher, I'm very passionate about the opportunity to lead the department and collaboratively port for its advancement," he says.

Alexander Sebald takes up the position as head of department on 1 September, taking over from Lars Peter Østerdal, who will continue on as a Professor at ECON.
