Maryam

Meet Maryam, a student from BSc in International Business

Why did I choose my programme?
I chose International Business because I was drawn to the programme’s reputation for attracting ambitious students and offering a steep learning curve. Moreover, I found the broadness of the programme very appealing, as it paves the way for many opportunities in the future.

What do I like the best?
I truly enjoy the many learning and career opportunities that the programme provides. Besides academics, I've found a great sense of community among my fellow students, which makes studying more enjoyable.

What do I think is difficult?
In the beginning, I felt very overwhelmed, as the transition from high school to university was daunting. It took some time to adapt to life at university and to find study techniques that worked for me. Additionally, the fast-paced nature of the programme was overwhelming at first, but I got used to it after a couple of months.

What would I have liked to have known before starting my programme?
I wish that someone had told me “You will figure it out”. Upon starting, I was very anxious about the challenges that laid ahead. As I progressed, I realised that it was okay not to have all the answers right away. University is a place of learning and growth, and I came to understand that it's entirely normal to face uncertainties during this time. If you embrace the learning process, you will figure it out in the end.

What do I want to do after finishing my programme?
After finishing my bachelor’s, I would like to pursue a master’s degree.

If I could give myself a piece of advice, before starting it would be…
Prioritise time management and organisation right from the beginning. University life can get quite busy with coursework, readings, and social activities, so having effective time management skills is incredibly beneficial.
