Julia

Meet Julia, a student from BSc in International Business

Why did I choose my programme?
I first heard about this programme through my sister, and when learning more about it on the CBS website, I was certain that I wanted to apply. I mainly chose this programme because of the variety of classes and the flexibility of the quarter structure.  As someone who is quite indecisive in what they want to work with in the future, having a quarter structure where we get to learn 2 different subjects every 6 weeks is the perfect way to explore what aspects of the business world I feel most passionately about.

What do I like the best?
There are many great things about being a student at CBS, but two of my favourite things are the people you get to meet, and living in an exciting city such as Copenhagen. At CBS, and in the International Business study programme, there are so many different platforms and opportunities where you can engage in social activities and meet others, such as school clubs, social events and through study groups. As an international student, I found this to be incredibly helpful, and it made student life at CBS, both in and outside the classroom, that much more exciting.

What do I think is difficult?
One thing I have found difficult is time management. While I’m fond of the class quarter structure and its versatility, it is at times quite stressful having to learn 2 new subjects in just 6 weeks, since I was not used to this from before. This way, it became easy for me in the beginning to get consumed with only the academic subjects, and harder to divide my time elsewhere. However, after some time, this transition became easier and I realised that upholding a healthy balance between academic subjects and social life was not only possible, but also very important.

What would I have liked to have known before starting my programme?
Before starting my programme, I would have liked to have known a little more about what to expect. What to expect from the different classes, the workload and student life at CBS in general. Luckily, the introduction week at CBS answered all my questions and helped me prepare for all that’s to come.

What do I want to do after finishing my programme?
While I’m still unsure of what career path I want to follow, I know that with a degree within International Business, I have the flexibility to explore different industries in the business world. However, first, I want to take one or more gap years, either to explore different job opportunities and/or to travel the world, before eventually discovering what I want to study for my master’s degree.

If I could give myself a piece of advice, before starting it would be…
To stop stressing about the things I cannot control and enjoy the process. At the beginning of the year and when starting CBS, I was worried that I might fail since I didn’t have the business knowledge I thought I needed to succeed. However, I quickly learned throughout the year that this was not the case, and that I should rather just focus on what I was being taught right in front of me and enjoy the once-in-a-lifetime experience of being a student in Copenhagen.
