New book on legal writing

09/24/2013

Several jurists from the Law Department and others from CBS have contributed to a book on legal writing. In 27 chapters leading experts deal with aspects of the written, legal presentation seen from four angles: 1) The legal subject area, 2) theoretical law, 3) practical law and 4) the sources and legal language.

The book contains intense essays, through which the reader will have a comprehensive view of the subject and see closely the writer's own opinons as well as his hobbyhorses. The chapters can be read separately and they contain references, which the reader can use for further absorption.

The first part of the book concerns the legal subject area, the legal method and other significant aspects of jurisprudence with a particular focus on the impact on written, legal products. In the theoretical and practical part, the reader will acquire an overview of the preparation of different legal documents, including the judgement, the legal opinion, the report, the agreement as well as the master thesis and other jurisprudential works. In the final part the focus is directed at language and sources and here the reader will, among other things, get a view of how to phrase legal text in English and how to avoid conflicts by communicating through mediation.

The book is edited by professor, dr.jur. Thomas Riis (University of Copenhagen) and associate professor, phD. Jan Trzaskowski (Copenhagen Business School), and the book is published by Ex Tuto Publishing.(ISBN 978-87-92598-23-3)
