Johannes Luger

Johannes is an Assistant Professor of Strategy and Innovation at the Copenhagen Business School. He studies strategic decision making in organizations, in recent years focusing on the question of how the increasing progress of digitalization affects decision making in organizations. Johannes mostly conducts quantitative and experimental (RCT and Lab) research. For example, in order to better understand how analytics-based decision support tools interact with managers’ tacit/expert knowledge, he recently conducted an experiment  “treating” managers with different versions of an algorithm-based decision system. Johannes teaches courses on decision-making, behavioral strategy, strategic management, and knowledge strategy.

Johannes works as a reviewer for prestigious journals in the field (e.g., Academy of Management Journal, Management Science, Strategic Management Journal, etc.). His work has been published or is forthcoming in outlets such as the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, Long Range Planning, and Organization Science. Johannes is affiliated with the University of St. Gallen and has held visiting positions at the University of Pennsylvania (Wharton) and the University of California (Irvine). He was awarded with prestigious prices and grants in the field, among others, the best Behavioral Strategy Paper price (2019), the best Ph.D. price by the Strategic Management Society (twice in 2011 and 2012), and has won large research grants. He is a member of the Academy of Management and the Strategic Management Society and regularly presents his research on international conferences.
