PhD defence: Mette Brehm Johansen

In order to obtain the PhD degree, Mette Brehm Johansen has submitted her thesis entitled: Organizing patient involvement - An Ethnographic study

Tuesday, March 20, 2018 - 12:30 to 14:30

The thesis is about patients, healthcare professionals and managers and the work they do to answer the policy call for involving patients in quality improvement. Ethnographic fieldwork in a medical centre in a Danish university hospital lays the empirical ground for the analyses. Overall, the thesis contributes by analytically examining aspects often ascribed a static role as backgrounds, self-evident notions or passive tools for patient involvement: contexts, work, ‘the patient perspective’ and involvement methods. It moreover contributes by showing the multitude of patient shapes and the complexity of patient roles at play in the involvement activities and discusses the often undiscussed and invisible work entailed.
