Scope 3 Emissions in the Spotlight: CBS Event Brings Together Research and Practice
Reducing upstream supply chain emissions – also known as Scope 3 – may not be the easiest path to a greener planet, but it’s certainly one that companies can no longer avoid if they want to meet their climate goals. That was the clear message from a high-impact event jointly hosted by Ramboll Management Consulting and the Department of Operations Management at CBS.
The event drew 90 participants, including 40 joining online, brought together leading voices from academia and industry to tackle the complex challenges and emerging opportunities associated with Scope 3 decarbonization.
Associate Professor Andreas Wieland presented a strategic framework for managing supply chain emissions, offering an academic lens on an issue that sits at the intersection of operational complexity and global urgency. He was joined by Professor Felix Creutzig from PIK Potsdam and the University of Sussex, who provided a broader perspective on climate mitigation across urban and national contexts.
From the industry side, Jack Robinson, Associate Manager at Ramboll, shared key findings from a recent Scope 3 report. This was followed by insightful contributions from representatives of GN Group, Novo Nordisk, and Danfoss, who outlined how their organizations are translating climate ambitions into concrete action—leveraging tools such as product-level emissions data, internal carbon pricing mechanisms, and active supplier engagement.
The event is part of CBS’s wider research agenda within the Department of Operations Management, which is committed to bridging the gap between academic theory and practical implementation. Scope 3 decarbonization has emerged as a key research theme within the department, supported by a growing and collaborative research environment.
