Dr. Erik Braun Joins the Department of Marketing as Associate Professor

It is with great pleasure that we can announce that Dr. Erik Braun joins the Department of Marketing as Associate Professor.

Erik obtained his M.Sc. in Economics & Business (with distinction) and a Ph.D. in City Marketing from Erasmus University Rotterdam. He held several positions within Erasmus University Rotterdam over the years.

Erik has expertise in tourism management, marketing in the public sector--in particular place marketing and place branding--and the management of retail areas. He is regarded as an international expert in place marketing, place branding, and tourism, and he has a solid track record in publishing in highly ranked AJG journals. His work has been published in journals including Public Administration Review, Tourism Management, Public Management Review, Urban Studies, Cities, Environment and Planning C, International Review of Administrative Sciences, Journal of Brand Management, and Journal of Place Management and Development. He has co-authored five books and co-edited another two books published with Routledge. Journal of Place Management and Developmentawarded him (with co-authors Michalis Kavaratzis and Sebastian Zenker) the Outstanding Paper Award for 2014. Emerald Group Publishing recognized Erik as the author of one of the most highly cited and highly influential papers published in 2012 relating to the areas of Business Management, Finance, Accounting, Economics, and Marketing with the Citation of Excellence 2016 certificate.

Erik has co-supervised five PhD students, and he has demonstrated the ability to maintain a consistently high level in his academic teaching. The students of the Master’s program in which he taught voted him the Lecturer of the Year in 2012.

Erik Braun is one of the founding members of the International Place Branding Association and is part of the scientific committee of the same organization.
