PhD defence: Dalia Bagdziunaite

In order to obtain the PhD degree, Dalia Bagdziunaite has submitted her thesis entitled: Brains at Brand Touchpoints - A Consumer Neuroscience Study of Information Processing of Brand Advertisements and the Store Environment in Compulsive Buying

Tuesday, June 26, 2018 - 10:00 to 12:00
Compulsive buying is an important problem in today’s society, driven by consumeristic values and reinforced by marketing efforts. Despite the vast amount of research that has been conducted on compulsive buying, the underlying responses that characterize consumer interaction with marketing information have not been yet fully established. This thesis provides an integrative literature review and two experimental studies that examined the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral responses underlying consumer information processing of brand advertisements and the store environment. Multimodal consumer neuroscience tools (i.e., EEG, eye-tracker, EDA) were employed to collect neurophysiological and physiological data. This thesis suggests that compulsive buying is a complex phenomenon that should be further investigated in context-dependent settings with interdisciplinary research methods and approaches.
