Presentation and academic fields

I conduct research and teach students about the role of business in the governance of equitable and sustainable development. I am trained in global value chain analysis, which I use to understand how businesses organize their activities in global networks of production and consumption. My research draws from theories in International Political Economy, Economic Sociology and Economic Geography to examine the economic, political and cultural dimensions of these networks/value chains and their articulation with power and inequality.

I am specialized in food and natural resource industries, and the governance of environmental sustainability in them. With my research and teaching I aim to foster analytical and critical thinking about the potential of different governance instruments to advance just and equitable sustainability in the context of globally fragmented production. I put on emphasis on empirically well-grounded yet theoretically ambitious research, and a teaching approach that both uses and critically evaluates theories through engagement with real-world cases.

Professional and/or academic experience

I hold a PhD and a MSc in International Business and Politics from Copenhagen Business School, and a B.A. in International Relations and Economics from the University of Erfurt. In addition to my academic research, I have experience working in consulting and trade promotion with the German Chambers of Commerce Abroad.

Pedagogical experience/method skills/supervision

I teach in the BSc and MSc programs in Business, Language and Culture, and in HA i markeds- og kulturanalyse. The courses include Governance and Development; Responsible Value Chains: A Path to Sustainable Development?; Africa, Global Value Chains and Development; Globalization and Sustainability; and Political Economy of Markets (Politisk Markedsøkonomi). I supervise theses and exam projects within my areas of interest and expertise. Outside of CBS, I am available as an Academic Support Teacher for students receiving SPS (Specialpædagogisk støtte) through the Student Counseling Service (Studenterrådgivning).
