Presentation

My research examines the opportunities and complications that arise from private-sector involvement in humanitarian assistance. In particular, I leverage my background in organization studies and international management research to understand how humanitarian initiatives involving private-sector firms can be realized effectively, ethically, and sustainably.

For more information on my research on this topic, please visit the site of the HUMAC project (Corporate Engagement in Humanitarian Action), a large research project made possible with generous funding from Velux Fonden.

In addition to my work on business and humanitarianism, I work on several projects related to the theme of business and human rights. Together with several excellent collaborators, the work in this area explores how stakeholders can engage multinational enterprises on alleged human rights infringementsand how affected communities can hold even the most difficult-to-reach corporations to account.

Methodologically, I combine qualitative research with set-theoretic and comparative techniques to generate insights of relevance to businesses, policymakers, and civil society. A free copy of an agenda-setting article on business and humanitarianism is available here: Corporate Engagement in Humanitarian Action.

I value academic service and am a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of International Business Studies and Organization Studies. I served as a Senior Editor for Organization Studies for six years (2016-2022).
