In 2019, Eric Guthey and Esben Karmark from MSC received an extraordinary activities grant from the Sino-Danish Centre for Education and Research to organize a workshop entitled “Where Will New Leadership Ideas and Practices Come From?” as part of their research project on leadership development in China.

In the process of organizing the event, they partnered with the Beijing II Hub of the Global Shapers Community, a network of young people under the age of 30 working together to address local, regional and global challenges. Initiated and sponsored by the World Economic Forum, the Global Shapers Community includes more than 7,000 members across 369 city-based hubs in 171 countries.

Eric and Esben ended up hosting their workshop as part of the Beijing Global Shapers’ Social Impact Week, from December 8-14.

With additional sponsorship from Lego China, they worked with the Shapers on the leadership challenges they face as a social change network,  they contributed to several other panels and activities during the week, and they participated in a conference at WEF’s Beijing offices with Global Shaper Communities from across China.

Esben Karmark also gave the closing address at the Shapers’ Impact Beijing Un-Conference, hosted at the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (photo above).
