PhD defence: Anders Kryger

In order to obtain the PhD degree, Anders Kryger has submitted his thesis entitled: Aligning future employee action and corporate strategy in a resource-scarce environment

Tuesday, September 4, 2018 - 15:00 to 17:00
This dissertation inquires into whether employees’ future actions and a company strategy can be aligned in a resource-scarce organization, and if so how? Through insider action research of strategy workshops, the study shows in four empirical papers, three of which are already published, how interview technique from narrative therapy can be used to facilitate a strategy workshop, how iterative prototyping can be used to develop a strategy workshop design, how a strategy workshop method's effectiveness can be assessed, and how attention to micro activities at a strategy workshop can be informative to scholars and practitioners alike. The study concludes that a strategy implementation workshop can be detached from the organization's deadline and delivery orientation, thereby opening a space for deep reflection. In this space, alignment of future actions and a strategy can take place. A strategy can be made experience-near and concrete to employees through a workshop design that initially presents the strategy at an abstract level whereafter it is linked to everyday tasks through narrative externalization of problems and possible future trajectories of action.
