Investigating Social Risk in the Mining Industries of North-Eastern Armenia

Investigating social risk in the mining industries can take you too many different places. This picture was taken in Teghout in North-Eastern Armenia where a big Copper-Molybdenum mine is currently being constructed with the financial support of the Danish Pension Fund and the Export Credit foundation (EKF). The picture shows two sides of a small valley, on one the road and power lines leading up to the mine and on the other the small village of Teghout. Between the two runs a small stream from which both get their supply of water and which is the center of some of the controversies between the two. To me the picture represents some of the complexity and potential risks organisations, like the mining company, is confronted with among those the impact of their activities on local villages like Teghout.
