Wednesday, March 4, 2020 - 18:00 to 20:00

iokos Copenhagen has invited Stefano Ponte to join and comment on the documentary screening organized in collaboration with the Environment and Development Movie Club, during the event chain under Green Week at CBS.

Filmmaker Sue Williams investigates the underbelly of the electronics industry and reveals how even the smallest devices have deadly environmental and health costs. From the intensely secretive factories in China, to a ravaged New York community and the high tech corridors of Silicon Valley, the film tells a story of environmental degradation, of health tragedies, and the fast approaching tipping point between consumerism and sustainability.

The screening is in parternship with The Environment and Development movie club (EDMC). They are an initiative at the Faculty of Science, University of Copenhagen. The EDMC seeks to nurture an intellectually stimulating and socially vibrant study environment through regular events with movie displays, debates and discussions.

The theme of the movie club is the environment-development nexus, by which we mean how processes of economic development and growth affect environments and people across the globe in multiple and at times contradictory ways.

Stefano Ponte, CBS Professor and Director at Centre for Business and Development Studies at CBS. Stefano's primary interest is in transnational economic and environmental governance. He gives several courses related to sustainability and is interested in supervising in different areas such as Social and environmental labels and certification and Global value chains and production networks. Stefano participated in a lecture around environmental labels and certifications during Green Week 2019.
