My PhD project concerns the COVID-19 crisis and its implications for economic and political organising. I am interested in the current crisis and its relation to neoliberalism, as well as the ways in which it potentially differs from earlier crises. I aim to investigate this by focusing on the global city as a local space in which the global is represented and which simultaneously provides a site for forms of politics that might question and challenge the dominant order. I explore how global cities respond to the crisis to see whether and how the crisis is a moment in which local economies are rethought and reshaped, and whether and how this development might carry a larger potential.
