Presentation

My main research interests revolve around the question of how we might organize our economies and societies more justly and sustainably. In my project, I study urban initiatives that introduce new forms of social, economic and political organization. My interest in these initiatives is twofold. On the one hand, I study how these initiatives create new kinds of political action and citizenship, through the subjectivity and relations that come into being, notably between citizens and the (local) state. On the other hand, I look at how these initiatives relate to underlying political-economic structures and whether and how they succeed at challenging existing economic mechanisms and tendencies. I employ qualitative methods and I draw on insights from urban theory, critical sociology, and political philosophy.

Primary research areas
  • Urban theory
  • Critical sociology
  • Political philosophy
  • Neoliberalism
  • Sustainability
