“Academic Swap” – Why a Change of Perspective Triggers Creative Ideas

Wife Swap was a US reality TV series which aired for the first time in 2004 on ABC. Christina Lubinski, Associate Professor at MPP, and Anna Spadavecchia, Associate Professor at Henley Business School in Reading, UK, decided to transfer the concept and “swap” their academic lives for three months in the spring of 2017.

The two researchers set up an academic exchange, in which Anna joined the CBS Center for Business History from March to May 2017, while Christina spent the same time at the Centre for International Business History at Henley Business School. “It was the perfect exchange for both of us. We had all the advantages of meeting inspiring new people from our field, without any of the transaction costs that usually come with fellowships abroad.” Anna is using her time at CBS to meet the Copenhagen-based colleagues, give a research paper on her latest work and re-work two of her articles. Christina is looking forward to presenting her latest paper to the team at Henley, take advantage of the Academy of International Business conference, which will be held in Reading during the time of her stay, and to do research on her project about international business in India.
